week 8/9
What we need to continue working on before this week's class, and through into next week:
- Make sure that we have 120 boxes total at least, in order to complete our structure
- Purchase some extra strong, wide double sided tape to tape the boxes together
- We need some form of support to hold up the boxes at the bottom of the structure and maybe even something running across the middle (just in case) as we are not a hundred percent sure how stable everything is going to be once it is all put together
- Bricks, or something similar could be useful for holding down the boxes at the bottom, anchoring them to the ground
- Some sort of signage for the booth, showing our name etc
- Decide on lighting - whether we need extra lighting? what kind of lighting? what kind of lighting creates what kind of effect?
- Entrance - what are we having covering it? (protecting from the bubbles escaping the booth)
- Finalise what we are doing to the floor of our area, make sure we have enough of everything (carpet squares)
- Sort our 90 second pitch for the week of the market that we are presenting
- Sort what kind of documentation we will be doing for our final week 12 hand in - video, photos, writing etc
- Drop Sheets - decide on what kind we need and purchase them http://www.bunnings.co.nz/haydn-drop-sheet_p00687714 http://www.bunnings.co.nz/monarch-professional-renovator-plastic-drop-sheet-3-7-x-3-7m_p01661353 http://www.bunnings.co.nz/monarch-canvas-drop-sheet-1-5x3-6m_p01660396

Music Playlists
I have created a few playlists to begin with, relating to the bubble popping sounds - underwater and bubble wrap type sounds
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvRZ_mEN8NwOUQ_uHREHWAuVV5hpo2LER
https://soundcloud.com/lauramcguire5/sets/creative-industries
I have found it difficult to find a lot of sound effect on these particular websites that are suitable and of a reasonable quality, so therefore I will need to download other sounds as well as these to get some sort of variation. These playlists will definitely be added to, but they are something that can give us an idea of what direction we are going in and what kind of atmosphere will be created within our experience and what kind of experience we want people to have.

Week 9 discussion with tutors and progress
Today we met with the tutors, and discussed the fact that more work needs to be done in terms of progress particularly again focussing on testing products, sorting music and lighting as well as confirming the structure we are definitely making.
For sound, it would be best to source already made audio from youtube/soundcloud, and now we just need to put it all together on some form of loop in order for it to last 3 hours.
Lighting still needs to be discussed with the entire group and how we would go about that in terms of creating enough light so that the person inside the booth can actually see the bubbles, but creating some form of lighting that is covered so bubbles do not escape the booth as a safety measure. The sound and lighting will make the experience a lot more appealing, as it was suggested to us by the tutors that our video made our experience seem a touch underwhelming in terms of the presentation of it.
We decided that carpet for the floor was the best option for safety, and we are currently sourcing that. We were able to purchase more painter suits today, for our 'uniform' and have found suitable bubble mixture that we need to test to ensure that we buy enough to last the full 3 hours of the market.
We decided that our booth will be 1.4x1.4m and 2.2m in height. This means that we would have easily enough room in our assigned area for our table which we are putting out the front, on which we will have painter suits, snorkels etc in order to make the experience a little more fun and interactive in terms of creating a difference within it, and playing on the concept of the bubbles being so simple and nostalgic/childish. We figured out that we would probably require at least 120 boxes in total for the entire structure, so we will need to collect more.

Potential Ideas for Sound
These are potential ideas for sounds we could use in our installation relating to the 'bubble' idea. These ones are just ideas, as it could be good to find some sort of sound that sounds even more just like bubbles popping, rather than bubbles in water.

WEEK 8 CLASS – Meeting with tutors - discussing week 7 presentation/blog
Overall, the
discussion went well, in terms of our idea and it’s potential for the market.
There were several things suggested to us however, that could be helpful when going
ahead and completing our ideas:
-
Health and safety: in terms of
having bubble wrap on the ground of our booth, it could become very dangerous
due to becoming slippery as a result of the bubble mixture. So suggestions made
instead were to use some sort of surface that had a decent amount of friction
such as carpet.
-
Sounds and lighting: we were
planning on having some form of sound, but hadn’t really discussed what exactly
yet, and bubble sounds were suggested to us. Lighting is something that we
definitely need to look into, in terms of how we would place it in the box,
what kind of lighting we would use, what colours we would use.
-
Testing our concept: we need to
completely build our design to full scale at least once before the actual
market day, in order to see that everything will work successfully and test the
bubble process within the area for at least an hour.
-
More blog research: some
contextual research and ideas could be developed for the blog, in terms of
inspiration, images, inter-relating ideas
We have also now
discussed that we will make the box by stacking fully put together boxes on top
of each other, to make our structure a lot more easy to put up and take down,
as well as being a more affordable option. We would make sure the all areas
that needed to be covered up, would be covered by drop sheets, as well as an
extra surface for the floor to prevent slippery surfaces.
